The "Voter Registration and Mobilization: Ground Work Wins" press conference will be hosted by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., as he announces the creation of his Commission for Voter Justice (CVJ). The press conference will be held on September 13th at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. (529 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20045) from 10:00am-12:00pm.
CVJ was founded and organized by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Founder and President of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and Barbara Arnwine, Founder and President of the Transformative Justice Coalition to address voter suppression across the country. It is clear the GOP-controlled states demonstrated the effectiveness of disenfranchising the opposition. The mission and purpose of CVJ is to unite its own commission of scholars and activists to address and preemptively strategize a voter suppression initiative that address’s the following: voter registration, universal early voting, automatic voter registration at 18 and restoration of voting rights for felons.
CVJ is committed to increasing voter turnout in elections by addressing counties that have not enforced compulsory voting, voter turnout and we have seen in previous elections voter turnout can be low, sometimes even below a third of the eligible voter pool. CVJ's action is backed by the Rev. Jesse Jackson's vision: "Voter registration and mobilization is hand to hand combat. We have to go place by place, church by church, school by school. Ground work wins."
